Sheldon Cordell

Sheldon began as a trainee at the firm in 1978, qualified in 1980 and became a partner in 1984. He is head of the Corporate and Commercial team at Joelson Wilson and advises UK and international clients on a wide range of transactions.

Expertise

Sheldon works alongside many well known CEO’s of public and private businesses. He particularly enjoys leading legal teams across a range of jurisdictions, and acting for entrepreneurs wishing to grow and sell their businesses. Over the course of his career he has acted on numerous IPO’s and fundraises, and for management teams involved in both buy-ins and buy-outs.

Sheldon has particular knowledge of the leisure, food, gaming, events and resources sectors and has, as his clients, many “household names”.

His approach to transactional work is understanding the deal “drivers”, and close integration with clients at all different levels and with the other advisers involved in the transaction.

As well as providing corporate and commercial legal advice, many clients turn to Sheldon at an early stage for advice in weighing up different business options ahead of committing themselves to final decisions.

Sheldon is also the Chairman of ELN (European Lawyers Network) and regularly represents ELN in its dealings with external organisations and other law firms.

Recent Transactions include:

  • Acting for resources groups on AIM listings, fund raises, acquisitions and reverse takeovers in the UK.
  • Acting for a well known UK restaurant/celebrity chef group on significant transactions both inside and outside the UK.
  • Advising an expanding and highly regarded exhibition and media group on transactions throughout Europe.

Outside Interests:

Getting away from the office as much as possible! Sheldon enjoys travel, playing squash and tennis, visits to good restaurants and is strangely passionate about West Ham United.
